As the largest state chapter of GMIS International, GMIS Illinois exists to provide a forum for public sector organizations for the exchange of ideas, experience, and techniques as they relate to government technology activities, and to foster an environment of sharing amongst all levels of the public sector involved in the vastly growing world of Information Technology.
GMIS Illinois has approximately 95+ member agencies comprised of state and local government including counties, municipalities, libraries, and other special districts. Our public sector membership is per agency, not per individual, so many of our larger members bring additional staff to GMIS events (additional IT staff, law enforcement, finance, etc.), making for an even wider audience. GMIS Illinois holds an annual conference, called GIANTS, and three quarterly meetings, usually held in February, May and August of each year. These educational meetings provide extensive opportunities for our corporate sponsors to network and develop relationships with a significant number of public sector technology decision makers.

GIANTS, our annual conference, is typically held in November from Sunday through Wednesday. Hands down, this is THE major benefit included with corporate membership. Each corporate member is given exhibit space at the conference. The conference is primarily technical with educational sessions, and, most importantly, frequent breaks providing an opportunity with personal interaction with government members. These breaks allow our corporate members opportunities to showcase their products and network with all of the public sector attendees. Additionally, depending on the membership tier selected, corporate members have the opportunity to present at GIANTS, addressing all attendees at once!
Quarterly meetings are usually held at various member locations in the Chicago metro area and co-broadcasted to another member location in Central Illinois. We are working to expand remote broadcast to the St. Louis Metro-East area and Southern Illinois as well. All corporate members are welcome to attend the quarterly meetings. Corporate members at the Platinum level have the ability to host and conduct a presentation at one quarterly meeting; other sponsorship levels may, if approved, do a presentation for an additional fee based on membership level. Silver and above corporate members can use an exhibit table to display materials at quarterly meetings as well. Additionally, there are monthly “Brown Bag” online technical discussions the fourth Thursday of the month at noon. Corporate members may join the Brown Bag discussions on the odd months of the year. This is just another way to develop long-term relationships with GMIS Illinois public sector members.
